Overview
9GAG is a global entertainment platform known for its unlimited stream of funny images, GIFs, memes, and videos shared by its community.
This project involved creating a logo animation for social media use, designed to reflect the brand’s playful, chaotic, and highly visual nature.
The goal was to translate the idea of “endless fun content” into a dynamic motion identity.
Concept
The core concept of the animation was inspired by the idea of “unlimited streams of humour and content” that defines 9GAG.
Instead of treating the logo as a static symbol, I aimed to transform it into a living object that visually represents:
- constant flow of content
- diversity of visual memes
- fast-paced digital culture
To express this, I used rich, vibrant colour transitions to symbolise the variety and unpredictability of content found on the platform.
The animation builds towards a final reveal of a 3D “9” symbol, representing the brand identity as a solid, recognisable anchor within this dynamic environment.
Design Approach
The motion direction focused on balancing chaos and structure:
Expressive Layer (Chaos / Content)
- Multi-coloured transitions representing endless media types
- Rapid visual changes to reflect meme culture and digital overload
- Energetic motion rhythm to simulate scrolling / content flow
Structural Layer (Brand Identity)
- Gradual condensation of motion into a clear “9” form
- Transition from fluid visuals to a stable, recognisable symbol
- Establishing brand clarity within visual noise
This contrast between chaos and structure was key to communicating 9GAG’s identity.
Execution
The animation was designed as a progressive transformation:
- Begins with dynamic colour and abstract motion elements
- Evolves through layered transitions representing content diversity
- Gradually resolves into a clean, 3D “9” logo reveal
The final output reinforces brand recognition while maintaining the playful tone associated with 9GAG.
Outcome
The final animation creates a visually engaging interpretation of 9GAG’s core identity — a platform built on endless, fast-moving, and diverse content.
It translates the idea of “unlimited funny content” into motion through colour, rhythm, and transformation.
