HKADC Christmas Greeting Animation

Overview

This Christmas greeting animation was created for the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) to celebrate the festive season across social media and digital platforms.

The animation was designed to reflect HKADC’s role in supporting and connecting the arts community, translating collaboration and creative exchange into a playful motion narrative.

Concept

The central concept is inspired by HKADC as a creative ecosystem.

Rather than treating the organisation as a single entity, it was reimagined as a dynamic system where different art groups continuously interact and generate new creative energy.

This idea was visualised through a pinball machine metaphor:

Each art group is represented as a pinball. As these pinballs move through the system, collide, and interact, new pinballs are generated—symbolising how collaboration leads to unexpected creative outcomes and continuous artistic evolution.

This visual metaphor captures the idea that creativity is not linear, but emergent and collective.

Design Approach

  • System-Based Visual Metaphor

The pinball machine acts as the structural framework for the animation, representing HKADC as an interconnected creative system.
Movement within the system is not random, but driven by interaction, collision, and feedback loops.

  • Motion as Creative Interaction

Each pinball movement represents an artistic interaction.
When elements collide, they trigger new motion outcomes, reinforcing the idea that collaboration produces new creative forms rather than static results.

  • Festive Visual Language

A Christmas-themed visual layer was applied to the system, blending:

      • playful motion graphics
      • seasonal colour palette
      • celebratory timing and rhythm

This ensures the animation remains festive while maintaining conceptual depth.

Solution

The final animation transforms HKADC’s collaborative role into an interactive visual system, where motion represents artistic exchange and creative growth.

By combining a pinball-based generative metaphor with festive storytelling, the piece communicates both celebration and the dynamic nature of the arts community.

Key Takeaway

This project demonstrates how abstract organisational values—such as collaboration and creative exchange—can be translated into a structured motion system.

It highlights my ability to develop conceptual frameworks that drive animation design, rather than using motion purely as decoration.
