Overview
A trifold leaflet offering practical guidance on recognising, understanding, and managing periods of low mood and negative emotions — exploring how visual design could make a sensitive topic more approachable and encourage supportive, non-intimidating engagement.
Role & Responsibilities
Owned the project from idea through the finished leaflet — concept development, illustration, and layout design.
Challenge
Balance informative content with emotional sensitivity. The leaflet needed to communicate wellbeing information clearly, reduce the topic's emotional heaviness, encourage engagement rather than overwhelm readers, and organise information within limited print space.
Designing at Scale
Positive visual language — Used a bright, uplifting colour palette to create a welcoming tone and counteract stigma or discomfort associated with discussing emotional wellbeing
Friendly illustration style — Added simple character illustrations and soft organic shapes to bring warmth and relatability, helping readers feel more comfortable engaging with the content
Clear information hierarchy — Organised the trifold into manageable sections, using typography, spacing, and content grouping to establish a clear reading flow and support information retention
Balance between content and white space — Incorporated breathing room throughout the layout to avoid visual overload and create a calmer reading experience
Outcome
The final leaflet combines approachable visuals with structured information design — a colourful yet balanced visual system, friendly illustrations supporting the emotional tone, and a print format that lets readers consume information progressively.
